2018 Mazda CX-5 vs. 2018 Nissan Rogue

If you need a capable, comfortable SUV to get your little monkeys to the Kansas City zoo, then the 2018 Nissan Rogue might seem like an appealing option. It has plenty of room for five, standard infotainment, the power of AWD, and adequate safety features to keep your family secure. But in many ways, the 2018 Mazda CX-5 is a much better choice.

Engine Specs

The 2018 Mazda CX-5 features a SKYACTIVĀ®-G 2.5L DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder engine with Cylinder Deactivation. The Mazda CX-5 delivers 187 hp @ 6,000 rpm and 186 lb-ft @ 4,000 rpm. This engine comes standard on all three 2018 Mazda CX-5 configurations: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring.

The 2018 Nissan Rogue offers a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with CVTCS. This engine produces 170 hp. Overall, the 2018 Mazda CX-5 focuses on greater horsepower while the 2018 Nissan Rogue attempts to balance fuel economy with horsepower.

AWD Crossover Handling

The 2018 Mazda CX-5 handles well thanks to available 19-inch wheels and a tight grip on the road. The Mazda CX-5 also benefits from an available i-ACTIV AWDĀ® system for maximum control in all terrain and weather conditions. Youā€™ll also find Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) onboard the Mazda CX-5.

The 2018 Nissan Rogue offers an available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system as well, although it is less robust in its engineering features. Nissan Intelligent Mobilityā„¢m automatically delivers power to the wheels that need it when making turns or driving in the snow.

Interior Features and Space

The spacious interior of the Mazda CX-5 is engineered around you with convenient features that include a telescoping steering system that makes it easy for even smaller drivers to sit comfortably without straining. The Nissan Rogue doesnā€™t offer a telescoping steering wheel, making it more difficult to find a comfortable position.

The Mazda CX-5 also gives drivers the option heated outboard back seats too, so rear passengers have a cozy place to rest during long winter drives. Nissan doesnā€™t offer heated rear seats in the Rogue.

Technology and Safety

Both the Mazda CX-5 and the Nissan Rogue offer access to standard infotainment systems that allow drivers to connect their compatible smartphones and access hands-free calling, Bluetooth music streaming, maps, news, and more. But while the Nissan Rogueā€™s standard system stops there, the MAZDA CONNECTTM system also includes E911 automatic emergency notification, which can contact emergency services and alert them to your location in the event of an accident.

If you experience a collision in a Nissan Rogue vehicle and cannot call for help assistance may be delayed if it comes at all.
